Technology

The use of technology to support care helps to prevent, manage and control harm or illness, slows down the progression of care needs, maintains and promotes independence in the home and in the community. Technologies such as telehealth, telecare, telemedicine, telecoaching and self-care apps have the potential to transform the way people control their own healthcare, empowering them to manage it in a way that is right for them. The Call Monitoring Service was established to monitor such technology.

What is Telecare?

A Telecare unit is linked to a digital network, along with a range of sensors selected according to your needs.

Help can be summoned by simply pressing a button or by an automatic alert by one of the Telecare sensors to the base unit. The unit generates a telephone call to the Call Monitoring Centre where a trained operator will answer and assess the call and coordinate response by phoning family or friends, your doctor, or the emergency services as necessary.

Contact your Local Authority for more information on how to access the Telecare service in your area.
